Preparing for a Shoot
Depending on the goal and what we want to create together, the way we built the photo shoot will be different. Portrait shoots will look different than creative shoots, which will look different than candid shoots. I am a big proponent of creating a vibe for a shoot together.
After all, these are your photos just as much as they are mine.
Things to consider for the photoshoot:
- Number of people
- Goals
- Vibes/ tone
- Location/ weather
- Clothing/ dress, accessories,
- Dates and times
- Price (the cost for a photo shoot will depend on the extent of the shoot, the type of work we’re doing and how many subjects are involved. That being said, I’m very willing to work around any monetary concerns or restrictions.)
For the Shoot Itself
I will usually come with a few ideas prepared, but we can develop them together as we continue. I love to move you around and get a variety of poses, backgrounds and situations so that you have as much as possible to choose from.
Below are some examples from Solomon Kieler’s high school graduation photos to help explain how this could work.
For these photos, Solomon really wanted to highlight the environment he was in. It was very important that the winter scene was featured.
We also wanted some photos that were more formal and more straight-forward portraits.
Solomon’s dog, Goby Fish, was running around outside and so I encouraged Solomon to play with him and we got some good shots of them interacting.
After the Shoot
I will go through and edit the photos for you. I only delete photos if they are out of focus or if the subject is cut off. Any edits I make on your photos are going to be saved as separate images, so the original image will always be available. Edits usually consist of minor alters with color, exposure, white balance, vibrancy and/ or saturation amount other things.
The final collection of photos that will be sent your way will be comprised of the original images and edited copies of some stand-out photos.
